Gemäldegalerie "Alte Meister" (Old Masters Painting Gallery)

The world famous painting gallery “Alte Meister” includes masterpieces of European painting. In just 50 years Augustus the Strong and Augustus III collected masterpieces from the Renaissance to the Baroque, among them works of Raffael, Giorgione, Tizian, Tintoretto and Veronese and also from Dutch painting, among them Rubens, Rembrandt and Vermeer. We take a trip through four centuries of painting and experience the paintings and their invisible genesis conditions and the client, the religious background and the painting technique.

Gemäldegalerie "Neue Meister" (New Masters Painting Gallery)

The painting gallery “Neue Meister” includes approximately 2500 paintings of the 19th and 20th century – from the Romantic to impressionism, expressionism, to the New Objectivity. Among the exhibits are paintings from Caspar David Friedrich, Max Liebermann, Otto Dix and Gerhard Richter.

Historisches Grünes Gewölbe (Historical Green Vault)

The Historical Green Vault opened its doors on the ground floor of the west wing of the castle to visitors on 15 September 2006, during the 800th anniversary of the city. In these rooms, between 1723 and 1730, August the Strong realized his vision of a Baroque work of art as an expression of wealth and absolute power. Extensive restoration and partial reconstruction show the historic interior now in a new light. In keeping with the festive architecture some 3,000 works of art are presented that are standing free before richly embellished and mirrored display walls and on ornamental tables - a unique Baroque style, were the individual work of art recedes behind the overflowing fullness. The highlight of the tour is the gem room with the gem sets of Augustus the Strong and his son, a unique historical jewellery collection of the 18th Century.

Neues Grünes Gewölbe (New Green Vault)

Since September 2004 the New Green Vault presents in the 1st Floor of the west wing of the castle about 1080 objects from the Renaissance to Neoclassicism. The tour through the 10 rooms includes many major works of the collection, including the Golden Coffee Set, the Court of the Grand Mogul and the ivory frigate with its wafer-thin sails, but also the most precious hat clasp with the green diamond and the cherry pit carved with 185 faces. The unobtrusive modern presentation allows visitors to view the treasures from close up and to be enchanted by the endless wealth of detail.

In einer einmaligen Art und Weise liefert das Panorama von Yadegar Asisi einen außergewöhnlichen Einblick in und Ausblick auf das Elbflorenz des 18. Jahrhunderts. Dabei vermittelt der Künstler im Panometer Dresden vom Turm der Hofkirche aus einen einmaligen Eindruck, den Sie nicht mehr vergessen werden.

Im Maßstab 1:1 eröffnen sich Ihnen kleinste Details des Stadtlebens, aber auch die gesamte Breite der unzähligen Blickfänge Dresdens.

The museum has an exhibition area of ​​7200 square meters. The permanent exhibition are structured in three main sections: “Late Middle Ages until 1900”, “First and Second World War” and “History of German post-war armed forces”. In a chronological complex presentation more than 7000 exhibits show over 600 years of German military history.

Outstanding museum objects include the exquisitely restored, medieval wrought iron giant - Rod ring gun “Faule Magd” (literally lazy maid) (approx. 1450), the first German submarine “Brandtaucher” (1850/51) and the landing apparatus “Sojus 29” of the Soviet-German space expedition of 1978.

Numerous big military-technical objects, e.g. motor vehicles, tanks, planes, cannons, ammunition and various other special technology from World War I  almost to the present can be seen in two large halls.

The art collection includes approximately 25,000 individual properties in the fields  graphics, sculpture and painting. Over four-fifths of the overall population figures are portraits or topographical views of the city - for research on the Dresden art and urban history vital sources.
